Where Creativity Met Confidence: Joey’s Time at TPSquared

Returning to TPSquared for my placement, I felt genuinely excited following the conversations and meetups leading up to my time at the studio. From the very beginning, Harriet, Claire and Carolyn made me feel incredibly welcome, and this warmth continued throughout the entire two-week period. I quickly found myself looking forward to every day I spent in the studio and the opportunities each one brought.

At the start of the placement, I was introduced to the studio’s server and guided through the design processes the team use to produce their work. This early insight into professional industry workflows was invaluable. It helped me understand how projects are structured from start to finish and allowed me to begin developing practical skills that I know will be essential in my future career.

As the placement progressed, I was given a wide range of engaging and hands-on tasks. These projects allowed me to fully explore my creative abilities while receiving high-quality feedback from experienced industry professionals. The feedback was always constructive, encouraging, and thoughtfully delivered, which gave me confidence not only in my work but also in my decision to pursue design as a career. Harriet and Claire took the time to patiently explain techniques and share expert software knowledge, significantly improving my workflow and helping me develop more efficient and professional ways of working. This support made a lasting impression, and I remain extremely grateful for it.

Another aspect that stood out to me during my time at TPSquared was the studio environment itself. I really appreciated the clear team structure and the transparency of the project workflow. With clearly communicated instructions and well-defined deliverables, I was able to move ideas forward confidently and efficiently, without second-guessing what was expected of me. Over the two weeks, this clarity inspired me to approach design projects in a more structured and methodical way, ensuring I fully understand a brief before responding creatively.

Reflecting on my experience, I feel that the placement allowed me to unlock new potential in both my skills and my confidence as a developing designer. Every question I asked, no matter how big or small, was met with clear answers and thoughtful advice on how I could continue to grow. I gained a deeper understanding of key design principles and how to apply them to real, live projects within an industry setting. By the end of the two weeks, I had absorbed an incredible amount of knowledge and left feeling far more experienced, confident and polished as a designer.

Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend TPSquared to any creative looking to learn, grow and gain real industry insight. It is a genuinely warm, welcoming, and open studio with endless opportunities for development, regardless of which creative path someone chooses to follow.
