Reflections On My First Three Months at TPSquared

Hello! I’m Phoebe, TPSquared’s Junior Graphic Designer. I am a recent graduate from University of Wolverhampton, where I earned a 2:1 degree in Graphic Design. I applied for the role of Junior Graphic Designer at TPSquared because I wanted to work within my chosen field of study and use my skills in a real-world setting. I saw it as a perfect opportunity to develop my creative abilities and refine my knowledge in the workplace, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to a professional team.

During my time at TPSquared, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, each with its own unique creative challenges and learning opportunities. One of my most exciting experiences has been managing and learning about social media marketing for Fierce Hairdressing. I’ve worked with the brand’s colour palette and tone of voice to create content that resonated with their target audience. Another highlight was designing a brochure for the Gentlemen Songsters, where I took on a more traditional print design approach. Both projects have allowed me to conduct face to face meetings with the clients and talk through my creative thinking and ideas with them.

I also felt a strong sense of accomplishment when I contributed to the team’s efforts during Wolverhampton Business Week, by speaking at the All Your Marketing Needs workshop at Wolverhampton Science Park. It was my first time presenting in front of a large group outside of my university classmates, and the experience boosted my confidence. Each of these projects helped me apply different aspects of graphic design and marketing techniques, making every day at the agency an exciting challenge.

The past three months have not been without their challenges, but these have also been some of my greatest learning moments. A significant lesson has been adapting my creativity to fit practical constraints like budgets and deadlines. At university, I had the freedom to explore bold design choices without limitations, but in a professional setting, I’ve learned to prioritise what works best for the client. Time management has also been a crucial skill I’ve worked on, particularly understanding how to balance creative quality with commercial needs. A project management tool called Streamtime has been helpful for planning and tracking my workload, allowing me to allocate time effectively and stay on top of projects.

Working as part of the design team at TPSquared has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The guidance and support from my colleagues have helped me grow not just as a designer, but also as a young professional. I’ve been able to learn new skills, from creative techniques to building confidence by attending networking events. One of the most memorable moments was celebrating TPSquared’s fifth birthday. Coming together as a team to mark this milestone was not only a celebration of the company’s achievements but also a reminder of the supportive and dynamic environment I’m a part of.

My first three months at TPSquared have had a significant impact on my career, giving me a clearer understanding of the areas of graphic design I’m most passionate about. I’ve gained valuable insights into both the creative and commercial sides of design, and I’m eager to continue developing my skills. Moving forward, my goal is to keep growing as a designer and start specialising in certain fields, such as digital marketing, website design and print, where I can make the most of my strengths.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds!
